Democrat legislative leaders will probe Murphy Administration sexual assault allegations

Steve Sweeney

TRENTON, N.J. – Democrat Senate President Steve Sweeney and Democrat Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin agreed late Tuesday to launch a ‘Select Committee on Investigation’ to probe bombshell sexual assault allegations (and a possible cover up?) plaguing the Murphy Administration.

Their decision came as Murphy began the first full day of a “trade” trip to Europe.

The move was met with approval from the other side of the aisle.

“The decision by Senate President Sweeney and Speaker Coughlin to convene a bi-partisan investigation is the right thing to do,” said Jon Bramnick (R-Union), the Assembly’s top Republican. “We should move quickly to get the answers we need to protect those who courageously come forward and take steps to prevent this from happening again.”

Sweeney, who has a fair weather friendship with Murphy, made his decision following criticism from both sides of the aisle of the Governor’s decision to appoint a controversial crony with a controversial past to conduct the Administration’s own review.
