WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump remained in D.C. this weekend as the federal government’s partial shutdown became the longest in U.S. history. The Trumpster indicated his willingness to continue talks over the border wall funding impasse.
At least 30 congressional Democrats demonstrated how disinterested they were in talking by taking off for Puerto Rico along with a small army of lobbyists.
Among them? The newly-reelected Bob Menendez (D-N.J.):
Spotted: Sen. Bob Menendez on the beach at a resort in Puerto Rico on Day 22 of the partial government shutdown. Reports say dozens of Dems are in PR for the CHC BOLD PAC winter retreat — including meetings on Maria cleanup, and a party with PR’s “Hamilton” cast. pic.twitter.com/6FaBYKPo4L

Menendez’s vacation didn’t stop the senator (of his staff) from snarking on Twitter:
RT if you remember when Trump said Mexico would pay for that wall.

Menendez overcame an indictment, severe admonition by the U.S. Senate, and a variety of severe accusations to win reelection by a comfortable margin in November over Republican challenger Bob Hugin.
The President, meanwhile, made it clear that Democrats like Menendez were to blame for the current situation:
We have a massive Humanitarian Crisis at our Southern Border. We will be out for a long time unless the Democrats come back from their “vacations” and get back to work. I am in the White House ready to sign!
