Sorry, Newark: Study confirms ‘universal basic income’ is a terrible idea

Experiments with ‘universal basic income’ – where the government pays you a set minimum income regardless of whether you’re willing to work – unsurprisingly failed in Finland and Canada. Of course, that legacy of failure hasn’t stopped Lefties from recycling this predictably disastrous idea in blue states like California and right here in New Jersey. They’re obsessed with utopia! Something I’ve been writing more about recently

Well, I’ve got bad news for Newark Mayor Ras Baraka who is apparently particularly enamored with the idea…

According to Public Services International, described by The Telegraph as “a global trade union federation” (so I think it’s same to assume this isn’t a “right”-leaning organization), a review of 16 UBI projects “could find no evidence to suggest that such a scheme could be sustained for all individuals in any country in the short, medium or longer term – or that this approach could achieve lasting improvements in wellbeing or equality.

Too expensive. Doesn’t work.

Check and check.

One would hope the self-proclaimed “Party of Science” would, at some point, expand its purported fealty to the mathematics and the scientific method beyond one area (climate change) to other arenas, notably economics. But we’d be fools to hope: the political potency of free shit is just too hard for most politicians to resist.
