UPDATE: Cory Booker’s celebrity girlfriend changes mind, will endorse him after all

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Awkward? You bet.

Cory Booker pathetic polling position in the 2020 primary is deflating enough for the one-time Democrat rising star, Save Jerseyans. But it can (and has) gotten much worse for New Jersey’s junior U.S. Senator. His own girlfriend – actress Rosario Dawson – said she wouldn’t endorse him.

“Regardless of Cory, I wasn’t going to be behind any particular candidate this election,” Dawson explained at a recent Variety-hosted event. “I really just want to be behind the electorate.”

Ouch.

Then on Monday, after the Internet collected chortled over her comments, Dawson appeared to reverse course and said she would endorse her boyfriend after all:

The first statement (a clear non-endorsement) wasn’t very ambiguous to anyone paying attention. Maybe she wanted to keep her options open? Dawson was a vocal Bernie Sanders supporter in 2016.

This time around, Booker is polling at just 2.5% nationally in the RCP average; he reached only 1% support in the two most recent surveys, and his poor showing is reflected in early battleground poll results.

The 1% presumably includes Booker’s parents, paid staff, and T-Bone (?).

Booker’s girlfriend is keeping plenty busy off of the campaign trail. While her boyfriend limps along in the political arena, Dawson is co-starring in the ‘Zombieland’ cinematic sequel set for release on October 18, 2019.
