RESULTS: Somerset GOP loses sheriff’s post but freeholder fight remains tight

SOMERVILLE, N.J. – Democratic challenger Darrin Russo is the sheriff-elect in Somerset County, vanquishing Republican Bill Parenti in a result that’s no surprise to pundits.

On the freeholder front? Where control of the board hangs in the balance? Democrat Melanie Marano (34,652) leads Republican Pat Walsh (34,402) by a margin so slim that the race will likely be decided by absentee ballots.
