It’s not a controversial bill, Save Jerseyans.
In fact, it’s so uncontroversial that a large number of Democrats agreed to co-sponsor A888 sponsored by Brian Bergen (R-25). The legislation’s purpose is to expand property tax exemptions for disabled veterans who have less than a 100% disability percentage rating.
Unfortunately for disabled veterans, Bergen is a Republican on the rise so the Democrats’ couldn’t let him snag a win.
The Democrat majority voted to table Bergen’s motion to bypass the committee stage and force a floor vote on Thursday; amazingly, of the original 20 Democrat co-sponsors for the current legislative session, no less than 18 Democrat co-sponsors of A888 voted to table it this afternoon.
That’s right… they signed on to the bill but subsequently helped kill it.
“Such a sad day. Partisanship over helping Service Disabled Veterans. Awful,” Bergen, himself a combat veteran, tweeted following the vote.

Also unsurprising:
The two Democrat co-sponsors who didn’t vote to table – Gabby Mosquera and Paul Moriarty – represent LD4 which is considered a top GOP pick up target in 2023 on the new redistricting map.
Electoral pressure matters.
