Monday: Former campaign manager for Trump, Christie to testify before January 6th committee

A New Jersey face will headline Monday’s latest episode of the hyper-partisan January 6th committee, Save Jerseyans.

On Sunday night, The Hill and other outlets reported that Bill Stepien will testify during Monday hearing. Stepien previously served as Trump’s White House political director and, later, his 2020 campaign manager after Brad Parscale departed from the campaign.

Prior to his work for President Trump, Stepien had a long and successful career in New Jersey politics that included serving as Chris Christie’s gubernatorial campaign manager in 2009 and 2013. Christie canned Stepien – then serving as his deputy chief of staff – in the early days of the Bridgegate scandal as a sacrificial lamb. Stepien subsequently helped build a national consulting operation working for various candidates and campaign around the country.

The committee may plan to dig into Stepien’s alleged role in the larger pro-Trump “Stop the Steal” effort.

Axios reports that Stepien was subpoenaed.

Christie, for his part, has blamed Trump for the January 6th Capitol Hill riot.
