As the aftermath of the recent raid at Mar-a-Lago continues to unfold, Congressman Jeff Van Drew (R, NJ-02) – a close Trump ally and possible 2024 running mate – told Newsmax on Wednesday that the D.C. establishment’s obsession with the former president stems from their fear of him.
“They have an obsession with [Trump] because they’re afraid of him,” Van Drew told ‘National Report’ co-host Emma Rechenberg.
Van Drew also dismissed the raid itself as both unnecessary and reminiscent of a “Hollywood production.”
A former Democrat, Van Drew is seeking reelection for a third term in Congress this cycle. He famously switched parties in late 2019 over his objection to the first impeachment of then-President Trump over the subsequently debunked “Russian collusion” conspiracy theory.
