Republicans are continuing to slowly but steadily chip away at Democrats’ one million plus registered voter advantage in the Garden State.
According to new data released on Thursday, Republicans gained a net of 307 registrants in August 2022 across all 21 New Jersey counties while Democrats lost a net of 675. That works out to a 982 registrant swing in the GOP’s favor.
Overall, the gap between Democrats and Republicans has shrunk by 58,574 voters since the beginning of 2022.
Republicans need a net swing of only 7,663 to overcome the symbolic hurdle of taking away the Democrats one million voter advantage in a state that hasn’t voted Republican for president since 1988 but nevertheless has produced a handful of GOP governors over the past 30+ years. Some of the nation’s most competitive congressional races – notably NJ-07 – are in New Jersey.
