REPORT: U.S. reading scores hit 30-year low

The AP reported on new data from the National Center for Education Statistics on Thursday, Save Jerseyans, and the information (while grim) isn’t a surprise. It confirms what we already knew, though perhaps some will be surprised by the scope of the problem.

To summarize: U.S. reading scores have hit a 30-year low, and math scores declines for the first time in the history of this particular measure.

This report dropped one day after Governor Murphy and other leaders responsible for locking down American schools for two years gathered at the White House to address a nationwide “teacher shortage.”

Earlier this year, we learned that “[a]bout half of all New Jersey students in grades 4 through 6 began [the 2021-2022] school year in need of “strong support” to catch up in math. More than 60% of students enrolled in Algebra 1 may have fallen behind. And nearly one in three high school freshmen are expected to need substantial help in English and Language Arts.

There’s no other possible explanation than the needless and unnecessary experiments in “remote learning” to stop a virus that (1) posed no real threat to children and (2) wasn’t arrested by masks OR vaccines.

The only real question at this point: why aren’t Republicans making a bigger midterm issue out of the worst educational setback in U.S. history?

Joe Rogan – often held out as a bellwether of younger swing voters – recently called on his listeners to ‘vote Republican,’ and it wasn’t because of inflation or taxes. He cited the Democrats’ mishandling of the Covid-19 pandemic. Candidates and their consultants need to listen up and act accordingly.
