Van Drew, 100 other members want credit card companies to answer for new gun code

Following news that credit card companies are being leaned on to track gun purchases, Congressman Van Drew (R, NJ-02) AND 100 other Republican members wrote to Visa, MasterCard, and American Express demanding answers concerning the implementation of a gun-specific “Merchant Category Code” or “MCC.”

The new code is being cheered by anti-Second Amendment activists but decried by Republican representatives.

“I have been, and always will be, a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment,” said Van Drew. “As a gun owner myself, this decision by the credit card companies is an infringement on our constitutional rights, and grants too much authority to banks by allowing them to flag purchases they deem ‘suspicious.’ It is obvious that this decision was enacted as a tool to eventually limit Americans ability to bear arms. I will always stand up for South Jerseyans and all Americans constitutional right to keep and bear arms and oppose any attempt to flag law-abiding citizens making legal purchases.”
