It’s not easy to turn out hundreds of citizens on a chilly Super Bowl weekend (especially in South Jersey when the Eagles were playing), but 500+ in attendance on Saturday at Brigantine Community School are fired up about plans to construct wind turbines off the coast.
Those concerns have only been heightened by a rash of unexplained whale deaths.
“We had a packed house for #Brigantine’s Community Meeting on Ocean Wind,” said Brigantine Mayor Vince Sera who helped organize the forum. “Thank you to the more than 500 Community Members & Elected Officials, from across the state, who took time out of their busy Saturday to learn more about the ocean wind projects off the #SouthJersey coast.”
Also in attendance: Congressman Jeff Van Drew (R, NJ-02) and state Senator Vince Polistina (R-2), both of whom have called for a suspension of offshore wind projects.
“This is one of the biggest issues of our time,” said Van Drew.
Those present where overwhelmingly opposed to the projects; notably, neither Atlantic Shores or Orsted sent representatives to offer a defense of their proposed wind farms.
