Facing a tough primary reelection battle, State Senator Sam Thompson (R-12) is switching parties and running in one of the state’s redder districts as a Democrat.
Thompson’s betrayal was first reported on Super Bowl Sunday by The New Jersey Globe.
It’s unclear whether Thompson can pull enough GOP support as a Democrat to overcome the now presumptive Republican nominee Owen Henry – mayor of Old Bridge – in a hypothetical general election head-to-head.
