Pennacchio, Bergen upbraid Mastrangelo, DeCroce for poor attendance and missed votes

Woody Allen is famous for observing that ‘eighty percent of success is showing up.’

The primary opponents of Morris Commissioner Tom Mastrangelo say he’s only turned out and showed up at about half of that rate, or 44% to be precise.

According to State Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-26), Mastrangelo – his opponent in this year’s LD26 primary – missed Wednesday night’s county commissioner meeting. In fact, he’s missed one out of every four meetings going back to the beginning of 2022. Pennacchio reports last night’s diversion was a “political pizza party” in East Hanover.

“Tom Mastrangelo is once again failing the people who elected him. Mastrangelo has missed 25% of the meetings held by the Morris County Commissioners since the start of 2022,” said Pennacchio. “Those missed meetings account for millions of dollars in county expenditures and appropriations that Mastrangelo did not show up to vote on. He couldn’t even show up to reject the radical Woke Agenda and he continues to miss meetings to attend political functions while he tries to climb the ladder. I hope he enjoyed the pizza.”

Mastrangelo became a freeholder in 2011; Pennacchio says he’s been late or absent to 44% of Morris County freeholder/commission meetings going back to 2021. That’s 24 absences and 21 tardy appearances out of 103 total meetings.

“How can Tom expect to represent the people of the 26th District in Trenton when he can’t even make it to work in his own backyard,” added Pennacchio.

Meanwhile, Mastrangelo’s Assembly running mate Betty Lou DeCroce missed 22% of Assembly floor votes when she previously served in the chamber before losing the fight for renomination in 2021.

Assemblyman Brian Bergen (R-25), who’s running with Pennacchio and Assemblyman Jay Webber (R-26) this June after redistricting moved him into the solidly-red district, says ex-Assemblywoman DeCroce missed 1,059 votes out of 4,817.

“You can’t say your standing up for people when you don’t even bother to show up,” opined Bergen.
