N.J. taxpayers will reimburse Bridget Kelly for Bridgegate legal fees

Both Bridgegate convictions ultimately got tossed, and now New Jersey is picking up one of the former defendant’s legal fees.

According to NJ.com, ex-Christie aide Bridget Anne Kelly’s whopping $7,249,424 legal tab (!!!) is reportedly being covered pursuant a settlement agreement struck by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.

Once considered a rising star operative in North Jersey Republican circles, Kelly’s career ended with a thud when Christie fired her for her purported roll in the 2013 closure of Fort Lee lanes to the George Washington Bridge. Kelly and ex-State Senator Bill Baroni were later convicted in federal court but, after an extended legal battle, their convictions were reversed by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Most recently, in 2021, Kelly mounted an unsuccessful bid for Bergen County clerk.
