OPINION: Is Trump 2024 worth the risk? | Glading

Is Donald Trump purposely trying to destroy America?  Of course not!  After all, the man wears his patriotism on his sleeve and his America First policies were wildly successful during his first term.  If cut, I imagine he bleeds not just red, but white and blue too.

However, I think there is one thing that Donald Trump may love even more than the United States… and that is Donald Trump.  I cannot fathom any other reason why he is running for president when poll after poll show that as much as 53% of Americans say they will never vote for him under any circumstances.  That means that the odds-on favorite to win the Republican nomination is also the odds-on favorite to lose the general election.

Despite these foreboding poll numbers, which portend a potential down-ballot disaster for the GOP in 2024, Mr. Trump is determined to lay claim to his party’s nomination.  Chances are – despite or partially because of his multiple indictments – he will succeed.  But his slash and burn, take-no-prisoners campaign approach is sure to fracture the Republican Party and alienate the critical independent voting bloc.

And so, it seems that Trump is hell-bent on winning the primary battle but losing the general election war.  Which, if it happens, will usher in another four to eight years of Democratic leadership and consequently, result in America’s continued decline and ultimate destruction.

Motivated by a desire for revenge – or at least validation – Mr. Trump will stop at nothing to face off against Joe Biden one more time.  On the surface, that seems perfectly understandable since he was maliciously and mercilessly attacked throughout his first term and had his re-election bid sabotaged by Facebook, Twitter, the mainstream media, and even the FBI, all of whom downplayed and denied the veracity of Hunter Biden’s notorious laptop.  Subsequent polls have shown that 5-10% of the electorate would have changed their vote from Biden to Trump if they had known about the laptop and its connections to Sleepy Joe and the entire Biden Family Crime Syndicate.

And so, more than any alleged voter fraud or machine tampering, that cancerous cabal of the liberal media elite and the entrenched Washington bureaucracy definitively swayed the 2020 election.

However, great statesmen are supposed to put country before self and that is what I am calling on Mr. Trump to do.  Does he have a legitimate gripe?  Absolutely!  Do I sympathize and even empathize with his dilemma… and have compassion for the way he has been mistreated?  Yes, that too.  However, the bigger question is this: can he possibly defeat Joe Biden on November 5, 2024?

Yes, it’s possible if everything aligns the way it did in 2016, with Trump losing the popular vote but winning in the Electoral College.  But why take the chance when the fate of our republic potentially hangs in the balance?

I am convinced that an alternate Republican candidate running on a similar platform but without Trump’s perceived negatives would win in a cakewalk, cleaning Uncle Joe’s clock in the process.  Even better, such a candidate would have long-enough coattails to help down-ballot candidates in the Senate, the House, and across America’s fruited plain.

Think Tim Scott… or Nikki Haley… or Vivek Ramaswamy.  Strong, forceful, eloquent, and optimistic conservatives who are also extremely likeable.  Add Ron DeSantis to that list if he can stop scowling so much and be more upbeat like his wife.

Here’s the rub, my friends.  I have a sneaky suspicion that if Donald Trump wins the GOP nomination and polls show him within striking distance of Joe Biden, the Democrat Party will orchestrate a health crisis… or a Hunter Biden implosion… and jettison Joe from the ticket, replacing him with someone like Gavin Newsom or Gretchen Whitmer.  In that case, it would be game, set, and match with the Democratic replacement candidate wooing and winning enough independents to secure the presidency.

And so, Mr. Trump, will you do the right thing, not just for the party of Lincoln but for the country you profess to love so dearly?  The choice is yours.

Throw your support behind the candidate of your choice and become an instant kingmaker and a selfless American hero… or go down in history as someone who let his stubbornness and penchant for revenge hand the keys to the Oval Office to someone – Joe, Kamala, Gavin or Gretchen – who despises everything America once stood for.

The bottom line for me is we cannot tolerate – or possibly survive – another four years of Joe Biden… or eight years of an even worse progressive alternative.  Simply put, I want to win, and I think someone other than Donald Trump gives Republicans the best chance to do exactly that.
