REPORT: The Feds subpoened records from Phil Murphy’s campaign in 2020

What were they searching for?

And what did they turn up?

We may never know, but according to a Politico New Jersey report on Monday morning, “[f]ederal prosecutors sought emails and text messages relating to two top staffers on New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy’s first gubernatorial campaign and a prominent lobbying and communications firm.”

One of the cited staffers – Brendan Gill – is an incumbent Essex County commissioner. While it doesn’t appear any charges were ever pursued, the episode could be relevant for the voting public since Gill isn’t just an elected official but part of an ongoing Democrat backroom shuffle which will likely result in him landing a seat in the New Jersey General Assembly.

Here’s the full story from Politico New Jersey.
