Is second place really a thing when you’re down 40-points? And you’re bunched up with four other candidates inside the margin of error?
Arguably now, but you can expect Chris Christie to try to make rhetorical hay out of the results of a new Emerson poll dropped Tuesday.
“Forty-nine percent (49%) of Republican Primary voters in New Hampshire plan to support former President Donald Trump for the 2024 nomination, a 40-point advantage over all other candidates, similar to his 41-point lead in March,” the polling report explains. “As the field of candidates has come more into focus since March, Florida Governor DeSantis no longer holds second place with double digits, instead has fallen to 8%.”
Christie leads DeSantis by 1-point, 9% to 8%, well within the poll’s relatively wide 4.9% margin of error.
Meanwhile, President Trump trails President Biden by 7 points or 5 points depending upon whether Cornel West is in the mix.
