Trump mocks Christie’s weight during N.H. appearance

The heat between Donald Trump and his former ally Chris Christie continued on Tuesday, Save Jerseyans, with the former taking a shot at the latter’s infamously-expansive waistline.

During remarks in Windham, New Hampshire, the former president quipped that Christie was unavailable because “he’s eating,” a joke which elicited additional commentary from the crowd.

“I was extremely respectful of Sloppy Chris Christie today in New Hampshire,” Trump later explained, perhaps unconvincingly, via his Truth Social platform. “During a speech in front of a large crowd of Patriots, somebody shouted out that “Chris Christie is a fat pig.” Rather than acknowledging that, which many speakers would have done, I said, “No, No, he is not a fat pig.” I’m sure Chris would have been very happy with my defense of him!”

Christie, for his part, seized on Trump’s comments to renew his call for the frontrunner to debate:

New Hampshire will likely make or break Christie 2024.

Christie polls far stronger in New Hampshire than he does in Iowa, South Carolina, or the country as a whole, but he’s still far back in the RCP Average with only 6.7% support, tied with Senator Tim Scott and well behind Ron DeSantis (17.7%) and Trump (41.7%).

The ex-governor placed sixth (!) in the Granite State back in 2016.

The first 2024 debate is scheduled for Milwaukee on August 23rd; Christie has qualified, but as indicated above, Trump has not yet confirmed his attendance.
