Trenton Democrats poised to give themselves $33k salary bump

What has anyone in Trenton done to earn a pay raise?

Beats me, Save Jerseyans. But they’re working on it all the same. On Thursday, legislation to increase the salary of the state’s part-time legislators by $33,000 annually cleared the Assembly Appropriations Committee. The new salary for Assemblymen and senators would be $82,000.

The original version was even worse; Democrats actually wanted to index legislative salaries to inflation in four years. Legislators’ staff allowance would jump from $135,000 to $150,000 pursuant to the current draft. Executive directors for the legislative party caucuses as well as Murphy cabinet members would see their salaries’ jump $35,000 (from $175,000 to $210,000) beginning this year.

Murphy’s successor – whoever that is – would also get a $35,o00 pay bump.
