This one is a doozy, Save Jerseyans…
Governor Murphy has repeatedly dismissed competing evidence suggesting a link between offshore wind exploration and a large, unusual volume of marine mammal deaths along the Jersey Shore over the past year. On Tuesday, he decided to crack an unscripted joke about dead whales during the portion of his FY 2025 budget speech addressing offshore wind development.
It went over about as well as you’d expect.
“I’m not getting any more complaints. There must be no whales 40 miles offshore,” Murphy said to a mostly stunned chamber before adding – but only after an uncomfortable pause – that he was “just making sure you’re paying attention out there because I am.”

The Murphy Administration is still pushing for the construction of offshore wind farms, but the Democrat governor’s initiative took a major hit last fall when Orsted decided to back out of a large project off the coast of Cape May County.
Notwithstanding frequent denials from Murphy and his allies, publicly available federal government filings concede the increase likelihood of marine mammals deaths from offshore wind activity.
