N.J. may expand health coverage for pregnant illegal aliens and their babies

Sanctuary Statehood is blowing up in the Left’s collective face across the country, Save Jerseyans, and many politicians are backtracking but New Jersey Democrats are still pushing to erect ever-larger magnets for illegal aliens.

Case in point: A577, introduced in January and pending for consideration before the Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee.

“This bill extends comprehensive NJ FamilyCare coverage to pregnant undocumented immigrants, and their dependent children up to the age of one year, who reside in the State and do not qualify for such coverage under existing law,” the bill’s statement explains. “Pregnant undocumented individuals would be eligible for full NJ FamilyCare benefits through the end of the 60-day period beginning on the last day of the individual’s pregnancy.  Under existing State and federal law, undocumented immigrants may receive Medicaid coverage only for care and services necessary for the treatment of an emergency medical condition, which federal statute defines as including emergency labor and delivery.”

So the sponsors are announcing that the only consequences for breaking into the U.S. and ending up in New Jersey are… free stuff.

Insane? Especially at a time when our Southern Border is wide open and we know smuggling operations are active in New Jersey? Sure, but it’s been a long damn time since anyone in Trenton did (or even said) anything sane.

By the way: it’s been estimated that as many as 470,000 illegal immigrants currently reside in New Jersey.
