Donald Trump has his first county line in New Jersey, folks, soundly defeating Nikki Haley at Hunterdon County’s Republican convention on Wednesday evening.
The former president won 106 votes to the ex-South Carolina governor’s 50, a landslide 68%-32% victory for the presumptive nominee mere minutes from his Bedminster “Summer White House” in neighboring Somerset County.
Trump’s Hunterdon victory means he’ll now run on the same June ballot line as Tom Kean Jr. in the Central Jersey county where he bested Joe Biden by less than 4,000 votes in 2020.
New Jersey’s primary is in June; the state will only field 9 voting delegates at the nationalc convention notwithstanding its 9+ million population since delegates aren’t being awarded until after an RNC-imposed May deadline.
