Another district is ditching the Murphy Administration’s transgender schoolhouse guidance.
On Wednesday night, the Vineland Board of Education voted 7-2 to abolish Policy 5756 and reject the Governor’s attempts to subvert a parental role in a child’s gender-related struggles in public school. The sprawling South Jersey farming community’s board previously attempted to spike the policy in January but fell short notwithstanding one member’s attempt to change his vote.
The tide has undoubtedly turned on the issue.
Attorney General Matt Platkin has sued multiple Garden State school districts over this issue. After initially arguing that the policy was mandatory, the Office of the Attorney General changed its position.
“Defendants are correct that LAD-compliant Policy 5756 is not a mandatory policy, and that school boards were not required to adopt it when the Department of Education released its Guidance as directed by the Legislature,” the AG’s Office explained in a 2023 letter to the court in Hanover School District litigation over the policy.
Vineland BOE abolished policy 5756 in a 7-2 vote.
