Ciattarelli endorses Trump, calls on GOP to unite

2021 gubernatorial nominee and 2025 candidate Jack Ciattarelli is formally endorsing Donald Trump for president.

“The fact is America was safer and more prosperous when Donald Trump was President,” Ciattarelli explained on X this Friday, citing Trump’s Super Tuesday romp. “And so, as the Republican nominee, he has my support.   America can’t afford four more years of Joe Biden.”

It’s hard to know what next year will look like on the other side of the 2024 presidential contest, but support – or lack thereof – of Donald Trump is already emerging as a significant issue in the upcoming Republican 2025 race. A new Super PAC is attacking NJ 101.5 host Bill Spadea over recent criticism of Donald Trump, while state Senator Jon Bramnick has been openly hostile to the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.

Ciattarelli’s position on Donald Trump has evolved (like many Republicans). In 2015, shortly before his first of three runs for governor, the then-Somerset assemblyman castigated Trump “a charlatan.”

Phil Murphy is term limited, so 2025 will be an open contest for governor. Steven Fulop and Steve Sweeney are already actively running on the Democrat side, and Congressmen Josh Gottheimer and Mikie Sherrill are viewed as possible contenders.
