Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson released a statement on Thursday following the death of Congressman Donald Payne (D) of Newark.
“We are saddened to be informed of the passing today of Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr., who had been serving New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District since 2012, and who succeeded his father in the same position,” said the Speaker. “Our prayers are offered today for his family and friends, and especially his wife, Bea, and their three children.”
Johnson’s remarks were among many which poured in following the 65-year-old federal legislator’s passing following a cardiac episode earlier in the month.
