N.J. Republican gubernatorial candidate Jon Bramnick “respects” Trump’s felony conviction

State Senator Jon Bramnick (R-21) is consistent if nothing else, Save Jerseyans.

Consistently asinine?

I’ll let you be the judge. Shortly after former President Donald Trump was convicted on all 34 counts by a New York jury earlier today, the ardent Never Trumper, North Jersey attorney and 2025 gubernatorial candidate offered support for the verdict.

“A jury unanimously decide to convict on all 34 counts and I respect their decision,” Bramnick tweeted on X. “Republicans are the party of law and order we must respect the judicial system. My experience as a trial lawyer is that jurors take their responsibilities seriously. No person is above the law.”

Bramnick, a close ally of Governor Phil Murphy who interestingly enough made Bramnick’s law partner a state Supreme Court justice, has made bashing Trump a central tenant of his run for governor. Bramnick is also a long-time friend of Chris Christie who famously made attacking Trump with Leftist talking points the thrust of his own ill-fated 2024 GOP primary effort.

Senator Bramnick’s opinion was nevertheless a minority one among New Jersey Republicans who spoke out following the verdict.

“For over four years I served as a New Jersey Superior Court Judge, most of that time in the Criminal Court.  I watched and read as much of the coverage of this trial as I could over the past several weeks,” wrote retired Judge Michael Donohue, Cape May GOP chairman. “I read the entire indictment and statement of facts long ago.  In monitoring the trial, I was routinely astounded at how these proceedings seemed to run afoul of the basic conflict of interest rules and utilized procedures that appeared to insult the fundamental fairness in criminal trials that we must afford every criminal defendant.  Worst of all, the instructions to the jury appear to have led the jury to a place where they had no choice but to convict.”

“The American people will render their verdict come November!” tweeted Jack Ciattarelli, the party’s 2021 nominee and one of Bramnick’s opponents for the 2025 GOP nomination.

Trump recently won “the Line” in Bramnick’s home county of Union by a 2-to-1 margin.
