“Not ready to host the World Cup”: NJ Transit gets roasted on social media amid heatwave system meltdown

NJ Transit and Amtrak couldn’t even agree on why they both sucked on Friday, Save Jerseyans, as commuters sweated through record heat waiting for delayed trains.

Amid a heat wave, commuters suffered five consecutive days of significant service interruptions which hobbled the nation’s busiest commuter rail system.

Even Mayor Pete was forced to weigh in.

“Our team has been monitoring recent delays and outages on Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor and NJ Transit,” the Transportation Secretary announced on Twitter. “@USDOTFRA is assisting in the investigation of today’s earlier disruptions and prepared to offer technical support to Amtrak & NJT as they tackle the root cause of these issues.”

While Pete searched for “root causes,” some lawmakers and plenty of observers took to social media to question why the notoriously troubled agency is justified in accepting the recent fare hike in light of their terrible service record:
