NJ Transit and Amtrak couldn’t even agree on why they both sucked on Friday, Save Jerseyans, as commuters sweated through record heat waiting for delayed trains.
Amid a heat wave, commuters suffered five consecutive days of significant service interruptions which hobbled the nation’s busiest commuter rail system.
Even Mayor Pete was forced to weigh in.
“Our team has been monitoring recent delays and outages on Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor and NJ Transit,” the Transportation Secretary announced on Twitter. “@USDOTFRA is assisting in the investigation of today’s earlier disruptions and prepared to offer technical support to Amtrak & NJT as they tackle the root cause of these issues.”
While Pete searched for “root causes,” some lawmakers and plenty of observers took to social media to question why the notoriously troubled agency is justified in accepting the recent fare hike in light of their terrible service record:
New Jersey is not ready to host the World Cup. Not even close. Before we throw more money at NJ Transit we need a full and complete audit of the agency. Identify what’s wrong and then fix it. I called for this on March 7. The clock is ticking. https://t.co/TF7OY2Wnc5

⁉️Monmouth County residents see it differently. ♀️
We are receiving countless complaints and requests for help from our constituents who are left stranded in NYC and are forced to take ferries home so that they can be home in time for graduations, picking kids up from school,… https://t.co/SQbr1S4mjy

Where is the Biden Administration? This Literal train wreck needs fixing and it needs fixing now.
We need a full audit of NJ Transit immediately. Throwing more money at the problem with a new 15% fare hike is not the answer.
South Jersey, which reaps nearly no benefits of this… https://t.co/ohGOGorBP1
