New Jersey’s Democrat nominee for U.S. Senate Andy Kim is lining up behind Kamala Harris after Joe Biden’s earth-shattering Sunday departure from the presidential race.
“I have full faith in Vice President Harris to lead a new generation of leadership for our country,” Kim posted on X. “Her candidacy is historic, not just the opportunity to elect the first woman, the first AAPI President, and a Black woman, but to continue on the incredible progress we’ve started.”
Kim, a sitting U.S. Congressman from South Jersey, had rode the fence for weeks as Democrat calls for Joe Biden to leave the race had increased in volume.
Kim is facing off against Republican Curtis Bashaw and, for now, an independent incumbent (and newly convicted felon) Bob Menendez this November after forcing Tammy Murphy (wife of the governor) out of the primary race earlier this year. A couple of recent polls have suggested a closer-than-usual race (single digits) notwithstanding the fact that New Jersey hasn’t elected a Republican to the U.S. Senate in the post-Watergate era…
