Despite being a top targeted race in 2022, New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District is a bit sleepier than expected as the fall ad buy season heats up.
The DCCC reportedly invested an additional $12 million in two dozen U.S. House races early Wednesday, but NJ-07 – where far-far-Left Democrat Sue Altman is trying to unseat freshman Republican Tom Kean Jr. – was notably absent from the list.
Check it out:
Following the DCCC’s $12.2M buy in 24 races earlier today, the NRCC’s weekly buy is up with…$3.2 million spread across 15 races, adding #CT05 (D-Jahana Hayes) to the board as targeted seat #38#WA03 $464,111#AK00 $302,717#ME02 $264,366#PA08 $260,645#NE02 $255,537#NM02… https://t.co/EZURUdyMCA pic.twitter.com/MpPtn2arQp

I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise.
Democrats are almost certainly regretting their choice of nominee in the toss up Central Jersey district. Altman has run an amatuerish campaign and is experiencing profound difficulty backing down from some of her radical past pronouncements including in support of defunding the police in contrast to the discipline Kean campaign effort.
Altman is quickly running out of time to attract the sort of third party investment she’d likely need to flip the district which voted for Trump in 2016, Biden in 2020 (51.0% to 47.4%) and, most recently, Jack Ciattarelli by nearly 12 1/2 points in 2021. She’s trailing in direct donations, too, to the tune of over one million dollars as of July 1st.
None of the other eleven New Jersey congressional districts are considered competitive and/or seriously contested in 2024 after the recent redistricting map seriously tilted the playing field in Democrats’ favor.
