New Jersey is the country’s third most Italian-American state (by percentage). The home of Frank Sinatra, Frankie Valli and Tony Soprano has a population of whom approximately 15% boast Italian heritage. Yours truly is among them (I’m about 25% Italian, but I’d say 50%+ of my midsection can be attributed to my late Italian grandmother’s cooking). But the Garden State’s Italian character and increasingly woke suburbs have teed up some particularly ugly clashes on the subject of Columbus Day in recent years.
So it’s fitting for New Jersey voters to know that Vice President Kamala Harris is decidedly anti-Columbus Day.
On Monday, she tweeted in support of “Indigenous Peoples’ Day” replacing the day upon which Americans traditionally acknowledge the Italian explorer credited with discovering the New World on behalf of Western Europe.
“This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, I am thinking about the young Indigenous leaders I met in Arizona last week. I am counting on their leadership and looking forward to our partnership,” Harris posted on X.
Unlike many of her recent pronouncements, Save Jerseyans, this isn’t a new position. As early as 2019, for example, Harris lamented a “wave of devastation for Tribal nations” unleashed by European explorers. “Since 1934, every October, the United States has recognized the voyage of the European explorers who first landed on the shores of the Americas,” Harris told the National Congress of American Indians’ 78th Annual Convention. “But that is not the whole story. That has never been the whole story.”
Ironically, Columbus Day “was created by President Harrison in 1892 in response to the anti-Italian motivated lynching of 11 Italian Americans in New Orleans in 1891. During World War II, Italian Americans were even targeted as enemy aliens.” That’s from the Biden-Harris Administration’s own White House website, folks! Pulled from Joe Biden’s own 2022 Columbus Day proclamation.
The five-year old video of Kamala trashing her former running mate’s own position went viral on Monday with only weeks left to go in the closely-fought Election 2024. Check it out and share with a fellow paison:
Kamala calls Columbus Day part of our “shameful past” that “ushered in a wave of devastation…perpetrating violence, stealing land, and spreading disease.”
This clip is such a stereotype of leftwing woke crazy that I assumed it was AI.
