Trump tells NBC: “I think I might win New Jersey”

Can Trump do what no Republican has managed since 1988 and carry New Jersey?

The (very) small handful of public polls would suggest it’s a reach, though a recent Cygnal survey showed it closer than usual (at Trump +12). But according to Dasha Burns of NBC News who interviewed him on Sunday morning, the former president isn’t shy about suggesting that the Garden State isn’t outside the realm of possibility…

TRUMP: When I went to New Mexico, you saw that crowd? It was an amazing crowd. And it was a weekday morning in New Mexico.

DASHA: You think you might win New Mexico?

TRUMP: I have a chance. I think I might win New Jersey, I think I might win Virginia.”

The President made a similar remark regarding his status in New Jersey at a Greensboro, North Carolina rally on Saturday:

So, again… is he on to something?

Consider the following: in 2020, Democrats posted a 640,792 advantage in early voting. As of Saturday, the penultimate day of New Jersey early voting? That Democrats’ combined mail-and-in person early vote statewide edge stood at only 289,392

We still have Sunday’s totals – which will likely pad the Democrats’ margins – but a strong GOP in-person turnout on Election Day could make the state as interesting as its been in a long, long time. I’m talking 20 or more years.

Stay tuned…
