The dust has finally settled and New Jersey’s Election 2024 presidential votes have all been certified, Save Jerseyans, and Donald Trump can boast at having made a little more history.
The President-elect’s 1,968,215 votes is the most ever received by a Republican nominee for president in New Jersey. That’s slightly better than even the 1,933,630 won by Ronald Reagan in 1984, and substantially better than 2004 when George W. Bush accrued 1,670,003 and came within approximately 6 1/2 points of winning the Garden State.
In fact, Trump’s 5.9-point loss is the closest any Republican has come to carrying New Jersey in a presidential contest since 1992 when George H. W. Bush came within 2.37-points of victory here.
No Republican nominee has carried New Jersey since 1988.
Of course, the Gipper won New Jersey and its electoral votes in 1984 (60.09% to 39.20%) in landslide fashion along with every other U.S. state except for Minnesota. Reagan also carried every county except for Essex while Trump prevailed in a slim majority of counties (12) versus Kamala’s nine.
