It’s (finally) over in Neptune, Save Jerseyans, and it’s a big win for a Monmouth GOP that’s in the cross-hairs of New Jersey Democrats in 2016.
On Tuesday, Republican Richard Pryor defeated Democrat Michael Skudera by 35 votes, 510 votes to 475 votes, in a special election originating from a January 2016 court ruling.
Initially, the incumbent Democrat had appeared to lose by one vote. A see-saw vote count blamed on a vendor’s computer error resulted in a court battle and, after Skudera eventually pulled ahead and took office, he was ultimately ordered to vacate the seat pending Tuesday’s redo.
Neptune City now has a Republican mayor and a 5-1 Republican council.
