EGG HARBOR TWP., N.J. – There’s a potentially competitive Republican primary brewing ahead of next year’s NJ-02 race, Save Jerseyans. Three Republicans are already in: young Republican engineer Brian Fitzherbert, former NJ-01 candidate Bob Patterson, and former construction CEO David Richter. There’s a strong likelihood that more will join the contest. None other than Speaker Nancy Pelosi is visiting the district next week.
Given its similarities to North Carolina’s 9th District, and the fact that incumbent freshman Democrat Jeff Van Drew won an unimpressive victory in 2016 (when Trump carried the district? Republicans are bullish about NJ-02.
