Oddsmakers: Christie has 10/1 odds to become Trump’s next Chief of Staff

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Impeachment is probably a foregone conclusion. 2020 is likely to see a Senate trial preceding the presidential election. The question might not be who would succeed Mick Mulvaney has Donald Trump’s next White House Chief of Staff but rather who’s actually up for the herculean job ahead?

There’s some debate as to whether he’d even want the job, but oddsmakers believe there are currently 10/1 odds that former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie could take the reins.

“A common name thrown around when it comes to potential openings at the White House, Chris Christie is 10/1 to be Trump’s next Chief of Staff,” says US-Bookies political betting analyst Alex Donohue. “While his odds don’t look great, they’re better than Wayne Berman’s 12/1 odds.”

Steven Mnuchin (3/2), Kellyanne Conway (7/2), Chris Liddell (5/1), and Matthew Whitaker (8/1) are all considered stronger bets.

An early Trump supporter and once-close adviser, Christie fell out of favor in Trump world due, in part, to his strained relationship with the President’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. Christie lost his post as transition czar and was reportedly turned down for his desired post: attorney general. Christie allegedly turned down the chief of staff gig at least once.
