McDaniel singles out South Toms River as reason for GOP 2022 optimism

You’re unlikely to hear Fox News or Newsmax talking about the South Toms River Borough Council do-over reelection, Save Jerseyans, but the RNC is taking notice.

Republican Sandford Ross defeated Democrat George Rutzler on Tuesday; the current tally is 250 to 142 (64% to 36%).

This particular election dates back to 2020 when, in November of that year, the candidates tied with 772 votes a piece.

RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel seized on the victory on Twitter Wednesday presumably because Joe Biden carried the borough by 80 votes in 2020:

The Democrat mayor of the borough – which now has a 5-0 GOP council – is up this November.

New Jersey’s state GOP is highlighting the win, too, as well as another recent special election victory in North Jersey.

“Not only does this make the Republican Party 2 for 2 in special elections this year, it makes us 2 for 2 in towns that Joe Biden carried in 2020 (this after winning a special election for Maywood Borough Council last month),” said NJGOP Executive Director Tom Szymanski. “This is yet another clear sign that Democrats are in massive trouble heading into Election 2022.”

“Simply put- New Jerseyans are showing they have had enough of the overreach, tax-and-spend policies, and rampant inflation that has resulted from one-party Democrat rule,” added Szymanski. “New Jersey Republicans are uniquely poised to not only capitalize on our historic gains last year, but also mobilize fed-up voters across the political spectrum into Republican victories across the state this year. No Democrat-held seat is safe in 2022!”
