Menendez verdict: guilty on all counts

U.S. Senator Bob Menendez has been convicted on all counts by a jury, Save Jerseyans, on charges related to serving as an unregistered argent for foreign powers and accepting bribes in the course of that conduct including gold bars. Menendez was facing 16 counts, and the 12-person jury returned a “guilty” verdict on all of them.

It’s unclear what comes next. Menendez is presently running for Senate as an independent after his party abandoned him and nominated Andy Kim, though it’s unclear if Menendez will continue his campaign pending an expected and probably inevitable appeal process.

“I am deeply, deeply disappointed by the jury’s decision. I have every faith that the law and the facts did not sustain that decision and that we will be successful upon appeal,” Menendez told a gaggle of journalists gathered outside of the courthouse following the verdict. “I have never violated my public oath.”
