Christie Approval: 51%

Governor Christie is still beating President Obama among New Jerseyans in approval ratings. The latest Quinnipiac poll has our Governor polling at 51% approval with 38% disapproval, compared to Obama’s 46% to 50%.

The poll went into detail on how voters rate Christie’s first year in office, even if it is almost 3 month premature. Here’s the break down: A (17%), B (31%), C (20%), D (16%), and the NJEA members gave him F’s (15%). This shows that New Jerseyans are generally satisfied with the job Governor Christie is doing. Most people would probably be reluctant to give any politician an A rating, so the fact that his A’s and B’s are so high is certainly something the Governor should be proud of.

48% of respondents consider Christie to be “confrontational,” while 43% described him as “honest and refreshing.” These two answers seem like they could go hand in hand. If Christie’s first almost-year in office has showed us anything, its that Trenton is generally confrontational, we’ve just had to sit through one party control for so long that it was masked in calculated and tempered reactions. Now that the legislature doesn’t have a cheerleader in the Executive, it would obviously tend to be confrontational, and in my humble opinion, that is refreshing.

Finally, 4 in 5 New Jerseyans want to keep Governor Christie in Trenton rather than sending him to the White House, and most do not think he will be ready for a Presidential run in 2012, something he has been adamant about.

Basically, Governor, keep doing what you are doing.
