The final vote was 218 to 210, Save Jerseyans. Not a single Democrat supported the bill.
The Republican-controlled House of Representatives passed a piece of legislation that would raise the federal debt ceiling by $900B and forestall a second major financial crisis for the United States of America and its global trading partners. It would allow the U.S. Treasury to pay its bills through the end of the year without raising taxes.
The “Boehner Plan” now advances to the U.S. Senate where Majority Leader Harry Reid has already declared the bill DOA. He’s particularly unwilling to consider a balanced budget provision added at the 11th hour to garner support from Tea Party-affiliated members.
Love it, hate it, resigned to it, whatever: this is an objectively serious proposal. This bill therefore deserves mature debate, and it’d be nice if the Senate’s leadership would seriously consider it! The President, who boasts of a “secret plan” (crazy, right???), can’t be expected to behave like an adult as our nation’s finances hang in the balance.
What say you, Senator Reid?
Really? Serious? He knew that it would never pass, so how serious do you think he was. He's playing to the Tea Bagger base with no regard for the rest of America. Disgraceful.
