The Open Invitation for @CoryBooker is Still Open

Last night, Cory Booker told Rachel Maddow he felt “used” by the GOP after they ran with his much-discussed flip flop on the fairness of President Obama’s Bain Capital ad.

But about 14 months ago, Save Jerseyans, I put out an open invitation to Mayor Cory Booker. I said that yours truly, and many others, would welcome him to the Republican Party with open arms. I had numerous reasons back then, all of which are still true today, if not more so. They included:

  1. Booker’s stance on Education Reform
  2. Booker’s stance on Property Tax Caps
  3. Booker’s decision to battle the public unions
  4. Liberals coming out against Booker
  5. It would give Booker an instant promotion to higher office

Well, Save Jerseyans, now New Jersey’s Super Mayor has more to mull over while he makes his long transition to stand with the good guys…

As everyone has heard by now, Mayor Booker spoke out against the Obama campaign’s desperate attempt to smear Mitt Romney by smearing venture capital and the job creating that went on at Bain. The sound bite was so good that the Romney camp did not waste a second to seize upon it.

The best part about Booker’s statements of course were that you could tell he truly believed it. The level of discourse being pushed by his party’s default nominee actually makes him nauseous. Therefore, it follows that Booker’s “clarification” was clearly, with all due respect, a bunch of bull.

The blackguards in Chicago likely got on the phone and put the spin machine in motion. The whole ordeal screams “change your statement or else!”

So Mayor, is this really how you want to be treated by your own party? How many people do you have to save from fires? How many sidewalks are you going to have to shovel? How many orders from less skilled politicians will you need to take before you get some respect? Put down the shovel you’ve been using to keep digging a hole for yourself on the left and just switch already!

Cory Booker and Governor Christie clearly get along. Could you imagine two politicians making a video like this one together and then running against one another? Of course not! Count Booker out in 2013. A year ago I said that Booker would have been a great candidate to take on Senator Menendez. Well that task is currently being taken care of by Joe Kyrillos. But the one great thing about being in the minority party (lets be honest its the only great thing) is that compelling candidates have enormous opportunity for upward mobility, something Mayor Booker seriously lacks thanks to the state of the New Jersey Democrat establishment and Booker’s own stances on a number of issues . . . you know, stances that align more frequently with some Republicans.

Mayor Booker, you’re not fooling anyone anymore. I was on to you when you were taking on unions, but now that you’re taking on President Obama the rest of New Jersey voters cannot be far behind. Consider my open invitation still very much open, but pick up the pace a bit will you? We kind of have a big election coming up this year.
