  1. Gergen made some comments that Romney should have responded to the personal attacks earlier. My thinking is that maybe there is a strategy behind not responding to those attacks sharply. Maybe he wanted Obama to spend a lot of his resources in attacking him on this issue and then he would respond.

    It may work. If Romney's likeability goes up as a result of the convention, then Obama has to move to another line of attack without the cash advantage that Obama has had in prior elections.
