A Little Less Candor and a Little More Discipline

One of the things that people like best about Gov. Chris Christie is his candor.

Sure, sometimes he crosses the line and comes across as both rude and condescending, but most people still find his frank talk refreshing… especially in today’s politically correct world filled with nothing more than sound bites and poll-tested positions.

And it’s not just New Jerseyans that approve of Gov. Christie’s shoot-straight-from-the-hip attitude. Across America, he is arguably the most popular – and yes, polarizing – of the country’s 50 state chief executives.

However, as much as I applaud Gov. Christie’s transparency and his stellar record in office, I cringed at the way he publicly embraced President Obama during his tour of the storm-ravaged Jersey Shore. And I was equally appalled at his incredibly poor choice of words that seemed to throw Governor Romney under the proverbial bus.

It is one thing to avoid politicizing a natural disaster that has claimed dozens of lives and destroyed billions of dollars of property. But it is something totally different – and completely unnecessary – to say that you could care less about next week’s presidential election.

After all, up until now, Gov. Christie has been one of Mr. Romney’s most ardent supporters and most effective surrogates.

Don’t think for a minute that the mainstream media – as well as the Obama campaign – haven’t seized on the opportunity either. The front page of USA Today featured Obama and Christie together and virtually every news report over the past 24 hours has done the same.

Whether or not Christie’s political faux pas damages Romney’s chances remains to be seen. However, his gaffe certainly didn’t help matters and reflected an alarming lack of self-discipline.

Let’s call it an honest mistake and a lesson learned. After all, no one is questioning Governor Christie’s heart or his motives. And yes, in the heat of a pressure-packed moment, we all tend to say things we may later regret.

But next time, Governor Christie, please exercise a little more discretion. Because it DOES matter to me – and I know to you – what happens on November 6th.

  1. Are you kidding me-You want Politics over people lives during a disaster.

I have seen numerous ignorant, negative posts about Governor Christie showing common courtesy to the President, from selfish people who are either from out of state or most likely suffered no repercussions from this storm.

Anyone writing and even using the slightest innuendos of Romney losing due to our Governor thanking and being courteous to President Obama is quite frankly a disgrace to Romney and the people of NJ and around the country.

When anyone helps you THANK them. Our Governor and Lt. Governor, along with their cabinet have performed phenomenally during this disaster. No room for petty politics in disaster areas, or at the expense of New Jerseyans. Sorry, what matters today, yesterday and in the near future are the lives & losses of the people in NJ.

On Nov. 6th, those who were voting for Romney will continue to vote for Romney, those who were voting for Obama, should heed to the issue prior to this disaster, and realize the economy will still be suffering, and Romney can and will secure it, stabilize and grow it .

It’s Our Governor handling and navigating this disaster in NJ, not Obama. President Obama is the person to approve and direct the Federal assistance, in place for such disasters. If our Governor does not show him the vastness of the devastation, what do you think would happen? Have you not learned common courtesy?

The election will come and go…Guaranteed, those who have lost everything will still not have a home to come back to, in the near future. They will be rebuilding their lives.

Guaranteed, those posting against the courtesy shown by our Governor to Obama while touring the devastation around our State, will still have a home to go back to.

The behavior and mindset reflected in the negative posts on various blogs criticizing our Governor‘s common courtesy, come from self-centered, ignorant, selfish people. They need to look in a mirror – they are a major part of problem in this country. I pray they learn to be thankful, caring and courtesy, even a little goes a long way. How about starting with an apology for your self-centered, selfish attitudes and postings? If your inflated, narcissistic egos won’t allow an apology, go help someone in need.

  2. Isn't there a middle ground here?

Christie did the right thing having the President visit New Jersey. He did not need to be so fawning. Agreeing with you there. I still think most people like how he has performed. Just my opinion.

  3. You should be embarrassed by this article. You should be ashamed that party lines are more important than people. True leaders, regardless of parties put their responsiblity first and find a way to get results.

Drawing lines in the sand between people having more loyalty to "their" party line than to showing American loyalty.

People are hurting right now, how dare you scold anyone for doing what they need to get help to them.

  4. The author of this article is what is gone wrong with the people of this country. This article is written by an ignorant moron who has blinders on to the magnitude of this disaster. I can only hope you are not representing the Replican party with this trash as it will have me rethinking my affiliation.

  6. Before you buy your basketball shoes; measure your feet if it's been awhile since you bought shoes. Given the fact that kids bodies are constantly changing; their shoe size does as well. Some people figure they stop growing once they reach adulthood, but this is not necessarily true. Any store that offers basketball shoes is prepared to measure your feet and give you a proper fitting shoe. When trying on basketball shoes, you want them to fit snugly but not to tightly. If your shoe fits loosely in any way you need to keep looking.
