Come January 1st, We’re ALL Going to Be Scrooged

I know that we have had a tough run as of late, Save Jerseyans.

And I know that we are also struggling to find our political center as a party.

But it never ceases to amaze me how the Democrats will continue to beat a dead horse until such time that it may actually resurrect.  The Republicans know there are fundamental changes that need to be embraced in order to advance our agenda in future elections.  There may be some party members who are burying their heads in the sand, but I think the majority of us know that we need to revisit the cornerstones of our government and channel our inner party chi.

I am sure there will be dissenters, but so be it.

Yesterday, as I tried to focus on keeping my holiday perspective, I came across a quote in The Star Ledger that particularly irked me.  From the perspective of one of their columnists, “Republicans finally seem to grasp that no party whose principal policy position is unquestioning support for the rich has much chance of winning a national election.”

WHAAAAT???

This is a most preposterous thing to write, Save Jerseyans.

First of all, I don’t think that ANY of us feel our principal position is supporting the rich, am I right???  We earn what we earn, and as a whole, Republicans feel that things should be FAIR – defined as everyone pays their own fair share according to what they bring in, NOT a share that Team O arbitrarily deems acceptable and “just.”

I think GOPers generally know that there are obstacles in our path heading toward 2016, but in no way do I think they are insurmountable.  And guess what else….these challenges don’t have anything to do with unquestioning support of the rich!  This is most certainly NOT our defining position!  Sometimes I really have to wonder how people publish such drivel.  Although, I am sure the same is said about me and what I write.  Freedom of the press, it’s a beautiful thing. But I digress…

Here is how this is going to hurt everybody.  I am not going to talk about the math; we have all heard explanations and quantifications of the cuts numerous times.  Instead, I am going to point out some other things for you. Less obvious things. And while I don’t want to take my cliché of beating a dead horse too far, another thing that weighs on me is the nonsense going on in Washington and the resulting impacts of any deal that is agreed upon.

Part of me feels like at the eleventh hour, Obama is going to hold a press conference in “victory,” to let the American people know that their best interests are being protected and that Congress and the Obama Administration have acted and struck a deal on matters of the fiscal cliff.

Say a deal is reached before January 1.

Of course, the “rich” will have to pay; this is a fait accompli.  My feeling is that when the dreaded announcement is made, Wall Street will go spiraling out of control.  The Dow will plunge, the S&P will pitfall.  Do you know why?  In no uncertain terms, it will be a swift market reaction to the fact that money in our already-weak economy is going to dry up.  Investments will drop or be pulled altogether; investors will fade into the woodwork.  Everyone will be protecting their wallets.  Companies will lose capital, and cuts will ensue.  Another recession is probably the more glossy prediction.

Doomsday scenario???  Do you think I am being overly dramatic?  Maybe…but do you really want to find out?

Ebeneezer Scrooge has nothing on the Democrats!
