Save Jersey at CPAC: NRA’s LaPierre

Wayne LaPierre, Chief Executive officer National Rifle Association (NRA), Rallies CPAC Crowd to Defend Second Amendment

To protect our children, we recommend a trained officer with a gun. They recommend scissors.”

– Wayne LaPierre

Battle of TrentonWayne LaPierre walked out on the stage at CPAC earlier today, Save Jerseyans, and got a standing ovation from the audience. The crowd already loved him, even though he had not spoken one word yet. He thanked the crowd for the warm welcome, and says he doesn’t get invited to many parties in this town, but he says that’s okay, because when he came to DC when he was younger he didn’t come there to be popular. He came to stand for what he believes is true.

“The political elites may not like me and the Liberal media keeps hating on me,” a resigned LaPierre concluded, “but I’m still standing unapologetic and unflinching in defense of our individual Freedom.”

Those last words got another very loud round of applause from the crowd.

He went on to say “[t]hey can call me crazy, or anything else they want, but NRA’s nearly 5 Million members, and America’s 100 Million Gun owners, will not back down, not ever. I promise you that.”

LaPierre didn’t restrict his commentary to the gun debate, indicting the liberal media for their treatment of conservatives generally. “They call us crazy, and in their distorted view of the world, they think they’re smarter than we are, and that they are special, they’re more worthy than we are,” he continued. “They know better than we do, and if we dare disagree, they will demonize us and they will try to shut us up. But we will not be demonized and we will not be silenced. No other organization than the NRA, in the world have spent more money keeping Americans safe…

We have Firearms safety training, law enforcement training, women’s safety training, and our child accident prevention programs are second to none. While gun owner ship is at an all-time high in our country right now, we brought accidents down in our country to an all-time low.  Each year we teach millions of people how to use, store and defend themselves with firearms. We have been teaching the military and law enforcement how to use firearms since the founding of our organization, and here they go calling us crazy. You know that there’s not a Mom or Dad anywhere that wouldn’t feel safer seeing a police officer when they drop their kids off at school. But the political elite, who will always have their own security, thinks we are crazy for suggesting this. They called our proposal absurd.

You know what’s really crazy? Crazy is, not protecting our kids at school.

Thousands of our schools today remain vulnerable to the evil intent of a madman.

He continued on to criticize a DHS video recommending to citizens, in LaPierre’s words, that “[i]f you are caught out in the open, and cannot conceal yourself, or take cover, you may consider trying to overpower the shooter with whatever means available,’ while a training video shows an office worker pulling out a pair of scissors. That’s their answer? Let’s get this straight: to protect our kids at school, we recommend a trained professional with a gun. They recommend scissors, and they say we are the crazy ones?

“You keep your advice, we keep our guns.”

That last zinger, as you might imagine, garnered another very loud round of applause.
