“Other” Still Leads; Guadagno, Webber in Tight Race for #2 Spot
By Matt Rooney | The Save Jersey Blog
He’s still finding the energy to threaten your constitutional liberties, Save Jerseyans, and an aide recently called resignation chatter “ridiculous.” But regardless of whether an early exit is actually in the cards, there’s nothing ridiculous about stating the obvious: Frank Lautenberg is not well and he won’t be in the U.S. Senate come January 2015.
Whether he leaves before January 2015 is the only question.
Then again, the Laut has tricked us before. Don’t forget that he came out of retirement once already. I also ran a web poll in 2010 asking readers to pick a replacement for the then-ailing senior senator (our old friend Tom Kean, Jr. won that survey). Yet he’s still there in the Senate a full three years later! Perhaps we can credit his taxpayer-financed healthcare plan? It’s better coverage than you or I can expect in the post-ObamaCare world.
Given the extenuating circumstances this time around, we’ve been periodically discussing possible GOP replacements. Our most recent poll has been up for two months (see the right sidebar). Here are the current standings:
We heard you loud an clear, folks. 22% of you want someone else or don’t know enough about the named candidates to make an informed call. Feel free to add suggestion for poll #2 in the comments section. This is only heat #1; we’ll weigh more names as time progresses. For now, make sure to cast a ballot… I’m taking this poll down on Tuesday, 4/22 at 10:00 p.m. to make way for a new one.
