Perry to Stump for Lonegan

BuzzFeed.com is reporting that Texas Gov. Rick Perry will campaign for Steve Lonegan in the Garden State on October 1st, Save Jerseyans.

Do you hear that noise? It’s reporters licking their chops as they wait to hear what the gaffe-prone Perry might say about Cory Booker (D-Twitter).

Gov. Perry is a smarter politician than his mouth would lead casual observes to believe. He’s been a very successful governor of the Lone Star State by most objective measures. These out-of-state political trips are carefully selected. But Steve Lonegan is behind in the latest public polls by a large double-digit margin, and New Jersey’s late primary makes it a less-than-critical state for the presidential nomination.

What gives?

The logical conclusion (for the cynical among us) is that GOP 2016 hopefuls like Perry and Rand Paul are hoping to spark interest in their respective explorations by stumping on the presumed frontrunner’s home turf. It’s also an easy way to get seen by the New York media establishment as well as one of the nation’s most generous Republican donor pools.

Ye-haw…
