Governor Chris Christie tapped former N.J. Attorney General John Degnan to replace David Samson at the NJ/NY Port Authority on Tuesday, Save Jerseyans, a registered Democrat who served under former Governor Brendan Byrne from 1978 to 1981. Degnan replaced Christie ally David Samson who resigned as New Jersey’s top Port Authority official on March 28th.
Christie trumpeted Degnan’s “unquestioned credentials,” but for what it’s worth, the nomination requires State Senate confirmation, a factor which the battle-weary administration likely included in its calculations in choosing a senior statesmen like the former AG.
