After receiving the full-throated endorsement of outing-Rep. Jon Runyan last week, CD3 primary hopeful Tom MacArthur added another former district representative to his endorsement rolls today on Monday afternoon: Jim Saxton.

“Tom MacArthur is exactly the kind of representative we need in Congress right now,” Saxton, who served CD3 from 1984 to 2009, said in a statement released by the MacArthur campaign. “Recovering and rebuilding from the devastation inflicted by Hurricane Sandy and securing the future mission of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst are both tremendously important issues to the people of Burlington and Ocean Counties. Tom’s impressive background in business and solutions-oriented approach to the challenges we face today will serve him well as he fights to break through the gridlock in Washington and advocate for the priorities of the Third Congressional District. It is my honor to endorse him and I look forward to casting my vote for him on June 3rd.”

MacArthur’s opponent continues to fight back despite a darkening polling picture.

Steve Lonegan’s camp countered with an endorsement from the pro-2A ‘Gun Owners of America’ organization.

“Steve filled out our detailed candidate questionnaire with 100% accuracy, and he fully recognizes that we cannot compromise at all in the fight to restore our gun rights,” Vice Chairman Tim Macy declared. “All law-abiding gun owners in the Third District need to put their full backing behind Steve Lonegan because he will be the voice that sportsmen and gun owners need representing them in the House of Representatives.”

There hasn’t really been a “surprise” endorsement yet this cycle in CD3, with major right-of-center national powerhouses coming out in favor of the county-backed candidate, Tom MacArthursuch as the NRCC and, as of Wednesday, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, while “RINO hunters” like radio host Mark Levin and the Tea Party Express crowd are filing into Lonegan’s corner.

  1. Have you noticed that all of the people endorsing MacArthur are liberal Republicans? Case closed. You want Obama-lite, go with MacArthur. You want a different direction, then Lonegan is your guy.

  2. Congressman Saxton was a pro-life champion and endorsed Duncan Hunter in 2008. He’s hardly a liberal.

  3. Very few people care about endorsements. In a primary like this it’s all POSITIVE name ID – and MacArthur, despite a massive early hole in name ID period, has a commanding hold on the positive name ID.

  4. I’ll take an endorsement from Jim Saxton anytime over an endorsement from Gunslingers Of America, an organization led by Larry Pratt who makes Wayne LaPierre look like Michael Bloomberg, the same Larry Pratt forced to resign from Pat Buchanan’s 1996 presidential campaign because of links to neo-nazi and white supremacist groups. God forbid Lonegan is the nominee and Dems will have a field day going after him over his ties to Larry Pratt.

  5. I am proud to be on the ticket with Tom MacArthur. My record on reducing taxes in Burlington County speaks for itself without reducing services. Tom holds and has those same values.

  6. So you’ve raised property taxes every year you were in office and substantially hiked the water tax? Good to know. Maybe you ought to run as a Democrat next time.

  7. You know what they say, Rufus…”Less is More”. No. “Less” is “Less”. “More” is “More”. They are different words, and enjoy their own place in the dictionary. I suppose you could say it was a “negative reduction”. Grammatically correct, and wholly disingenuous…and Joe, vapid Aimee serves with you, so I guess she gets credit too, huh?
