Debating: Conservatism vs Libertarianism

By Joshua Sotomayor-Einstein | The Save Jersey Blog

Debate StageThis Save Jersey contributor invites all of you in North Jersey to attend The Great Debate: Libertarian VS. Neoconservative Thursday, June 19th at 7:30 in Willie McBrides (616 Grand St) in Hoboken. The event is being organized by the Hudson County Republican Club (http://hudsonrepublicans.com/) and I am honored to be one of the debaters.

Which one will I be? The NeoCon of course!! Presenting me with a serious intellectual challenge will be the NJ State Libertarian Party Vice Chair and her party’s CD6 candidate (http://doritfornj.com/), Dorit Goikhman.

Love or hate neoconservatives, whether you are a capital “L” Libertarian or a libertarian within the GOP, or even if you are one of the few fellow traveling Democrats that hasn’t migrated over to the Right just yet come for a spirited debate about the issues facing our nation.

When Reagan said that “the person who agrees with you 80% of the time is a friend and ally, not a 20traitor” he couldn’t have been be more correct, but he didn’t mean we should stop exploring where we do disagree!!

So come down to Hoboken town, have a drink, schmooze with creative conservatives, and toss your question into the debate. Audience questions will be taken in the second part and I personally look forward to them all even if they are isolationist tirades JK (ok, half JK)!!

H/T to the Hudson County Republican Club (HCRC) for organizing this event. While my beloved neoconservative movement is solid and strong, libertarianism, both within and outside of the GOP, is growing. It’s encouraging that while the establishment may not get it, the HCRC understands its important that we keep the dialogue between groups within our big tent coalition . We can’t work together if we don’t even know what the other actually believes and if we don’t work together we can never win an election.

Hope to see you there!
